The various media that sprung comic books adaptations (literature, cinema, video games) have been well studied, but the mercantile dynamics and circumstances surrounding this act of remediation are less so. The Marvel archive, kept by the Bibliothèque nationale de France, features numerous examples of publications that were adapted and can hence be scrutinised in order to study the commercial practices of comic books publishing houses and their consequences on comic book creation.
